The Canon Pixma MP170 - An Impressive Multifunction Printer
If you choose the Canon MP170 multifunction printer, you will need lots of space to accommodate this impressive machine. The model will print from memory cards and cameras. In addition, it will scan and copy documents and the controls are simple to use. Canon MP170 ink for the machine comes in two cartridges, one black and one tri-colour. The installation of the Canon MP170 ink cartridges is fiddly but once fitted they work well with the accompanying software. The printer provides an alert regarding the levels of ink in the Canon MP170 printer cartridges. However, do not remove a unit until it is completely empty as it cannot be reinstalled. Canon has included Photo Image software that allows you to tweak your images before printing them. There is no display screen but you can print out thumbnails to assist in choosing the images you wish to print.

The print speeds are fast for such a cheap model with 7 pages per minute for text and a 15 x 10cm photo in 55 seconds. The quality of prints is good with accurate colours and smooth graphics. The printer has a high ink yield use which makes it disappointingly costly to run. However, this can be offset by using Canon MP170 compatible ink cartridges instead of the genuine inks.
