The Canon Pixma MP490 Printer - An Entry Level All-In-One
For an entry level machine the MP490 has a high specification. Canon has made a much smaller machine which will suit users with a minimum amount of space. This smart looking model has a paper support tray at the rear and the front cover opens up to become an output tray. The scanner will accommodate only single sheets but works well and gives good quality results. There are three memory card slots but strangely enough no PictBridge support which is usually fitted as standard. The Canon MP490 ink is held in two cartridges, one black and one tri-colour.
Print Speeds, Quality And Costs
Print speeds with Canon MP490 ink cartridges are 5.7 pages per minute for mono and 2.2 pages per minute for colour. This is lower than Canon quotes but still reasonable. When the Canon MP490 printer cartridges are fitted, you need to align the print heads and once this is accomplished the print speeds go up a tad. The print quality is good for a low budget machine with clean black text and dense bright colours. Photo prints which are processed with Canon MP490 compatible inks have a good range of shades and hues. The slight yellow cast which is noticeable at first soon disappears when the print is dry. Prices per page using canon MP490 printer ink cartridges come out at 4.36 pence for mono and 9.36 pence for colour.
